Tyler St Garage, down near the harbour in the Auckland CBD, is infamous for the rooftop dining area – so infamous, in fact, that our impromptu drop by for lunch meant that we had absolutely no show of getting a table on the deck during JC’s lunch break. Perusing the menu and drink ing a cider while I waited for JC to arrive, I decided it was definitely worth sticking around – the food looked delicious and the ambience downstairs, whilst industrial (it is a converted parking garage, after all), is really nice.
The service was impeccable, that nice blend of attentive and not-so-attentive-that-we-annoy-you. The food came out in a really timely manner and was absolutely delicious. I’d be very keen to take Papa M back there as they had some really interesting takes on pizzas; Papa M is a total pizza fiend! In saying that, I was super happy with my choices and JC loved hers too.
We shared shoestring fries with smoked potato aioli (delicious aioli)…
Then I had the pulled pork sliders with iceburg lettuce, mayo & barbecue sauce as my main…
While JC had the creatively plated tuna salad with seared sliced tuna, mixed leaves, radish, cucumber,
cherry tomato with wafu dressing.
What girly lunch is complete with desserts?
I had the spiced apple donuts with chocolate sauce and whipped cream – tasty morsels of granny smith apples surrounded by a batter that incorporates ginger beer, the perfect mix of sweet and tart.
JC rounded things off with a “special” affogato – frangelico, coffee and ice creamy goodness.
Perfect for a flying lunch, an after-work meet up or a lovely girly catch-up such as we had. Get in early (or book in advance) for a roof table – it looks well worth it!
